July 2024 News

A Recent Success Story

Early in the morning on Monday, July 8th, I opened a message from a student who had just received the results of his AP (Advanced Placement) Spanish Language and Culture exam. "Hi Elizabeth, Just wanted to thank you for all of your help because I got my scores back and I got a 4." A score of 4 or 5 generally results in college credit being awarded. I have tutored this student online for three years in Spanish 2, 3, and 4. Since he was not taking the AP class this year, we worked extra hard to prepare him for the exam.

I'm not sure which made me happier: his high score or the fact that he wanted to share the news with me as soon as the results were released!

If you know a student who is planning to take AP Spanish in the coming year, I will be happy to provide support in preparation and practice for the exam. Please feel free to share this link to contact me for more information.

From Impossible to Possible

The summer months can provide a much-needed break from our "tyranny of the urgent" routines and constant to-do lists. With this gift of time, you may have thoughts or dreams that have surfaced before, things you wish you could return to or try for the first time, but it just doesn't seem possible. Perhaps you often come back to the idea of playing the piano or picking up where you left off in your younger days. Or maybe you want to figure out how to write down those melodies that keep going through your mind. I understand...

Earlier in my life, even though I was already a pianist and a music reader, my mind began setting words to music, something totally new for me. Then, I began exploring ways to enhance congregational hymn singing by creating introductions and new harmonizations. When a church's handbell choir budget was limited, I started writing some music myself for the groups I directed. Although I hadn't thought of myself as a composer, I found a whole new calling on the other side of that "impossible" written in my brain.

Is it time to act on your recurring musical dreams? Do you know someone who needs your encouragement to try something new or reopen an artistic pursuit? Contact me to get started with online instruction in basic note reading, music fundamentals, beginning piano, or Sibelius music notation.
