Babesia gibsoni (B. gibsoni) is the predominant tick-borne protozoan blood parasite that causes hemolytic anemia, thrombocytopenia, lethargy, and splenomegaly. It has recently been recognized as an important pathogen that affects dogs in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas. The suspected specific vectors of Babesia gibsoni infection are: Rhipicephalus sanguineus commonly called the brown dog tick, and Haemaphysalis ticks, and it can easily be transmitted by bites especially for dogs who come from fighting backgrounds, from dams to puppies, and also through blood transfusion.

Dogs with the parasite or infected by the Babesia gibsoni can even lead to death if left untreated.
The most sensitive test for B. gibsoni is “the PCR test” which is a process that delays results and adds costs.
In that regard, Bioguard with the aim to provide the most convenient, accurate, and reliable solution for the animal care industry has developed the Babesia gibsoni test to facilitate mass screening of high‐risk dogs and monitoring of response to treatment for infected dogs.

The Objective of that study comparing the Bioguard VETlabs test directly to PCR is to give you a better comprehension of the performance of the Bioguard VETlabs B. gibsoni test.
The study showed that Bioguard laboratories have taken 54 infected positives specimen and 72 non-infected-negatives specimens.
The result of the study is as follow

Feline Leukemia Virus (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) are both retroviruses that vitally affect domestic cat’s populations. Although caused by distinct viruses, these diseases have similarities: both are contagious and incurable; both are more likely to be acquired by a cat that is allowed outside.
Unlike some forms of viruses that infect cells and then kill them, FeLV and FIV actually alter

the genetic material of the infected cell and turn cells into little virus factories. This process takes time, so in both cases, cats may be infected for many years before becoming clinically ill.
FeLV and FIV in cats are serious and unfortunately incurable diseases, the best way to prevent the spread of these diseases is to have your cat tested regularly. The Bioguard VETlabs Feline leukemia Virus (FeLV) Ag/ Feline immunodeficiency Virus (FIV) Ab Combo Test is a sandwich lateral flow immunochromatographic assay, developed by Bioguard Corporation for enabling the simplicity of rapidly testing or detecting the feline leukemia virus antigen and feline immunodeficiency Virus antibody in cat’s blood.
