Bioguard Feline Blood Typing Test is Based on Agglutination Reaction not in Antigen-Antibody Reaction
The blood types of cats are composed of mainly A, B, and AB. Type A is the most common, type B is rarer, and type AB is rarest. Type A erythrocytes express N-glycolylneuraminic acid (Neu5Gc), type B erythrocytes express N-acetylneuraminic acid (Neu5Ac), and type AB erythrocytes express both Neu5Gc and Neu5Ac. Instead of using antigen-antibody reaction for feline blood typing via monoclonal or polyclonal antibodies recognizing the antigens on erythrocytes, Bioguard’s “Feline Blood Typing Kit” is based on the agglutination reaction that occurs when the blood sample interacts with the agglutinin/lectin in the test windows.

Cases of human-to-cat COVID-19 transmission identified in UK
A team of scientists at the University of Glasgow has identified two known cases of human-to-cat COVID-19 transmission in the UK.
In the study, led by the University of Glasgow, researchers describe two cases of human-to-cat SARS-CoV-2 transmission, found as part of a COVID-19 screening programme of the feline population in the UK.
The cats, both different breeds, came from two separate households and displayed mild-to-severe respiratory signs. Researchers from the Medical Research Council (MRC)-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research (CVR), in partnership with the Veterinary Diagnostic Service of the university’s School of Veterinary Medicine, believe both cats were infected by their owners, who were also displaying COVID-19 symptoms prior to the cats becoming unwell.
