Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! Too exclusionary for you, Bernie? Fine. Happy Father's Day to all the single mothers too. Still not good enough? F*** it. Happy Father's Day to all the grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, step siblings, pets, and mailmen.

Now that I've been canceled for using the term "mailmen" instead of "mailpeople," let's dive into this week's news!

Week in Review

Russia: Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden sat down to discuss global issues like human rights, the arms race, and cybersecurity. Putin told Biden, "I'll have my lawyers draft a contract to limit Russian hackers. They'll text it to you. Just click the link in the text to sign."

Champ: Sadly, President Biden's dog passed away this week. There was one positive takeaway for the President though. Like much of corporate America, Biden was glad to appeal to voters of all orientations by having Champ cross the rainbow bridge during Pride Month.

Juneteenth: In a rare act of bipartisanship, Congress passed a law making Black emancipation day a federal holiday. "Black Americans have suffered significantly," stated Sen. Lindsey Graham, "It's only fair that Congress gets to take an extra day off to celebrate that fact."

Water Cooler Talk - NBA Playoffs

Many of us have returned to the office over the past few months. With that comes the return of "water cooler talk." Here are a few one-liners to show your co-workers that you've kept up with the National Basketball Association.

Say, "I bet the Nets would have won if they hadn't all gotten injured."
- This shows that you pay attention day-to-day. The Nets were one of the best teams assembled in NBA history. However, in an effort to appeal to younger fans, they attempted to perform a complicated TikTok dance. In the process, every single player got injured, forcing them to forfeit the final game of the Eastern Conference Semifinals. This allowed the Milwaukee Bucks to advance automatically.
State, "Without Kawhi, I don't think the Clippers stand a chance."

This shows that you understand what makes a team great. Kawhi is the LA Clippers' spiritual guru from Hawaii. All season, he has given advice and direction to the players. Unfortunately he tested positive for COVID-19 this week and cannot interact with the team for the next two weeks, leaving the squad feeling lost.

Ask, "If the Hawks beat the 76ers, do you think they stand a chance against the Bucks?"
- This shows you know which teams are better. Teams are assigned mascots each year based on how good they are. Can you imagine a Hawk beating a Buck? That would be insane! A Buck has antlers!!!
Explain, "The Atlanta Hawks logo looks like a drunk Pac-Man going in the wrong direction."
- Correct.

Comics Described

Artists get all the credit for a good comic strip, but I think it’s the writing that really makes or breaks them. To really focus on the writing, I’ve removed those pesky cartoons and will simply explain the comic strip. I think this will create a much more enjoyable experience for the reader.

Today we have a single panel comic strip. We see two lines of people. Each line is waiting to use a water fountain. Above one fountain hangs a sign that says, "Vaccinated." Above the other fountain hangs a sign that says, "Non-Vaccinated."

Hahaha! Spot on Johns! In the same way that people in the early 1900s couldn't choose whether they were white or black, people today can't choose whether to get vaccinated or not. It's exactly the same situation!
