Edition 46: Fantasy Rankings

I need your help! As of today, Scott's Edition has 87 subscribers. If each one of you promises to share the newsletter with two friends, then realistically I'll get exactly 13 more subscribers to hit the big triple digit mark. Rather than bore you with the math equation I used to figure out those numbers, instead let's dive into this week's news!

Weekly Stats

# of U.S. COVID cases (7-day average)

121,533,  17.1% since last week

% of U.S. population fully vaccinated

55%, ↑ 0.8% since last week

Combined Record of NFL Teams Who Play in New Jersey

0-4

Predicted increase in Scott's Edition subscribers next week

13

Gold

$1,752,  0.17% since last week

World Weather: India's capital city is expecting sunny skies early in the week, then thunderstorms over the weekend, then sunny skies again the following week. Sounds like quite the Delhi sandwich if you ask me.

Week in Review

China Trashes Crypto: On Friday, China banned all cryptocurrency transactions and mining. "Bitcoin simply isn't real. You should not need to mine currency to get more of it. You should just have to pass Go," explained China's new Minister of Finance, shown here:

Life: Reuben Klamer, the creator of "The Game of Life," died this week at the age of 99. What a loser.

French Pride: French President Emmanuel Macron chose not to attend this week's UN General Assembly after the US and Britain struck a lucrative nuclear submarine deal with Australia behind France's back. Like their leader, the French people are also protesting. Similar to America's anti-France protests after 9/11, the French are voicing their discontent by referring to the credit card company as "Freedom Express."

Fantasy Rankings

It's that time of the year again: fantasy sports time! To make sure you're up to speed and ready to compete, Scott's Edition presents its first ever Fantasy Sports Rankings. Hope this helps!

Image description

1. Quidditch: The undisputed #1 fantasy sport is, of course, Quidditch. The aggressiveness of football combined with the dexterity of handball makes this a well-rounded athletic event. If you think hitting a 3-pointer to win a basketball game is exciting, try catching a golden snitch when you're down 140 points! I hope you know a spell to make a quick pot of coffee, because you'll be up all night celebrating in the common room.

2. Podracing: Head to Tatooine for one of these fierce competitions. Podracing is similar to F1 racing if F1 racing wasn't safe. Nothing makes a sport great like the near-certainty of death.

3. A Falcons Superbowl: One of the top fantasies in sports has to be seeing the Atlanta Falcons win an NFL Championship. This would be higher on the list, but the top sports should have some semblance of reality to them.

4. The Texas Presidential Election Audit: Though technically not a "sport," the amount of fantasy is so high that it still counts on this list. Unlike in the #1 sport, Trump won't find a snitch to catch.

Comics Described

Artists get all the credit for a good comic strip, but I think it’s the writing that really makes or breaks them. To really focus on the writing, I’ve removed those pesky cartoons and will simply explain the comic strip. I think this will create a much more enjoyable experience for the reader.

Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for September 23, 2021

Today's cartoon strip is a bit confusing, so bear with me. Each panel involves Pig talking to Stephan Pastis, the author.

In panel 1, Pig offers a reply, "You never know." Stephan Pastis emphatically states, "Nobody @*#@* with Stephan Pastis!"

In panel 2, Pig explains, "Maybe we shouldn't call them morons." Stephan Pastis replies, "What are they gonna do? Mess with my work?"

In panel 3, Pig asks, "What if they do it wrong?" To which Stephan says, "That's pretty hard to do. But I suppose those morons could screw it up."

In the final panel we get some clarity as Pig asks, "How do you submit your strip to your comic syndicate?" Stephan Pastis explains, "Panel by panel, because each file is so large. Then they lay out the panels in the right order."

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The panels were put in the wrong order because the author called the editors morons! But, in reality, the comics are in the correct order because if they were laid out chronologically then there would not be a joke. Looks like the editors aren't childish and, in fact, do their job correctly. Guess they're a lot better than the Scott's Edition editors.

Just kidding. Scott's Edition has the best editors in the business, and they will get a huge raise this week.

Thanks for reading!
